They Simply Exist was the inspiration for Five Years. I was always fascinated with abandoned homes and objects, and living in New Hampshire you would always see old barns, houses, factories, and other structures that were once hubs of activity. These places are seemingly frozen in time and in precarious states of stress and decay. These photographs are vignettes of moments that are both peaceful and uncomfortable, tension being made by objects suspended in time and space. Abandoned structures and places are rife with both fear of the unknown and strong feelings of home, nostalgia, and comfort.
